Jan-Feb

Earlier this month, I participated in an inclusive Valentine's art market. My friend Mateo invited me to be part of it, and thanks to this event, I completed six different artworks, which is a huge accomplishment for me. Usually, unless inspiration strikes, it takes me a month or so to finish just one piece. For the month of January, I was determined to finish those pieces. The experience truly motivated me, and now I can't stop thinking about the next vending events I want to participate in.

This newfound momentum also encouraged me to finally reach out to Pendergrass Flea Market (La Vaquita) about renting a booth and becoming a vendor. Having a physical space for my art would not only be a potential source of income but also a step closer to my dream of creating and maintaining a space for other artists.

Beyond vending events, I have so much to look forward to this year. I can already envision the many artworks I'll create. Lately, I've found inspiration in a book my aunt let me borrow titled Gods of Jade and Shadow by Silvia Moreno Garcia. I’ve been listening to a podcast series called La Guerra de Reforma from La Verdadera Historia de México, along with a few artists on rotation, including Rebe, Juan Son, and Caifanes. There is something about Caifanes’ music, with its mysticism and dark lyricism, that reminds me of everything I love about Mexico, from its stories of magic to romanticism and resistance.

I had the absolute pleasure of seeing them live in concert. They played my favorite songs, my partner and I ended up in a photo for their socials, and we stood very close to the front. It was surreal. My parents weren’t big fans of them but would sometimes play their most popular songs. As a teenager, their music was a source of comfort for me. I never thought I’d get the chance to see them live, and I’m beyond grateful that I did.

I’m also preparing for my first weekend vendor experience next month at Mad Monster Party with my friend Jose. I’m eager to see where all these opportunities lead me.

P.S. I will do my best to maintain a consistent blog schedule this year. I’ve been trying to stay grounded during these turbulent times, and I plan to cover other important and interesting subjects that I’m learning about along the way.
